FABlab helps youth build robotics and learn about tech-innovation

The future of Namibia is tied to how agile we are when it comes to embracing the right technology and fostering a new, savvy, leadership pool in Namibia.

The rise of robots is unstoppable, with drones filling the air, the seabed and nanotechnology are just a few clear examples. Some people, even academics and scientists may might think this is not in Namibia’s future, the Design and Technology Centre of the Namibia University of Science and Technology, FABlab, says otherwise.

FNCC hosts Design Indaba…and CinemaFest with 99FM

FABLab Namibia is bringing the world renowned Design Indaba of Cape Town to Windhoek from 1 to 3 March, which will make the FNCC (Franco Namibian Cultural Centre) in Windhoek the creative hub of Namibia.
During those days the FABLab and FNCC will stream all the sessions live, and have several activities and speakers at the Design Indaba from Cape Town.

FABlab impresses German delegates

The Parliamentary State Secretary of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Thomas Silberhorn, toured NUST’s Fabrication Laboratory (FABlab).

He was accompanied by the Namibian Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development (MITSMED), Dr Michael Humavindu, and by the German Ambassador to Namibia, HE Christian Schlaga.

The Future of Robotics in Namibia

In December 2016, FABlab built the first functional robot in Namibia. This laboratory, which is based in Windhoek, is a subsection of the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and was established thanks to a partnership with the Ministry of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development.
